July is Ladakh's high season — all major roads are open, all lakes are accessible, and the weather is sunny and warm during the day. It is the most popular travel month and also the most crowded one. Here's everything you need to know.

Road Status in July

  • Manali–Leh Highway: Fully open by early July. Some sections near Baralacha La may have snow remnants in early July but are passable.
  • Srinagar–Leh Highway: Open throughout July. Occasional closures due to rockslides at Zoji La — usually cleared within hours.
  • Khardung La (Nubra road): Open. The highest motorable road in the region at 5,359m.
  • Chang La (Pangong road): Open. Road conditions to Pangong are good in July.
  • Hanle / Tso Moriri roads: Open, accessible via Leh–Manali NH on the Karu–Tanglang La side.

Is July Crowded?

July is peak season — expect crowds at Pangong, Khardung La, and Hunder sand dunes. Hotel and guesthouse rates are at their highest (25–35% above shoulder season). Book accommodation at least 3–4 weeks in advance.
