June is one of the best months to visit Leh Ladakh — and it is consistently underrated. All roads are open, temperatures are comfortable, crowds are lighter than peak season (July–August), accommodation is available without 3-month advance booking, and the landscape is at its most dramatic with snow still visible on the high passes. If your schedule allows, June is our top recommendation.

Road Conditions in June
By early June, both the Manali–Leh highway and Srinagar–Leh highway are fully open. All passes — Khardung La, Chang La, Tanglang La — are accessible. June offers the bonus of fresh snow on the peaks against a bright blue sky, creating spectacular photography conditions. The Manali–Leh road may still have some rough sections near Pang from winter damage — this typically gets repaired through June.
Why June is Better Than July–August
- Fewer crowds: Pangong Lake camps are available; no waiting for checkpoints; monasteries are quieter.
- Lower prices: Accommodation and vehicle hire are 15–25% cheaper in June than August.
- Snow on passes: The dramatic snow walls on Rohtang, Baralacha La, and Khardung La are still visible in June — gone by August.
- Cleaner air: No dust from heavy traffic; clear views of Stok Kangri and the Karakoram range.
What to Pack for June in Ladakh
June is warmer than May but nights and high passes are still cold. Carry: down jacket, fleece, thermals for evenings, t-shirts for Leh daytime, full trekking shoes, SPF 50+ sunscreen (UV is intense in June), and light layers you can add and remove as altitude changes.
